Ballington House does not accept walk-ins or drop-offs, clients must be referred by a VOA Utah program or partner program.
Ballington House offers services to homeless adult males struggling with co-occurring disorders including substance abuse and mental health. This 16-bed residential facility, located on Brooklyn Ave in Salt Lake City, has been designed to provide wrap-around services both onsite and in the community, integrating mental health and substance abuse treatment approaches with the goal of successful reentry and reduction in recidivism as well as homelessness.
The program prioritizes person-centered planning and offers access to a comprehensive range of services. These services encompass consumer, group, and family addiction therapy, medication management, consumer mentoring, skills development, personal services, and case management. The duration of services is directly tied to the consumer’s response to treatment and discharge plan, with an average length of stay ranging from 4 to 6 months.
Our approach aims to achieve several key objectives. First, we empower the clients we serve, fostering their autonomy and active participation in their recovery journey. Second, we promote abstinence from substance abuse, emphasizing a drug-free lifestyle. Third, we focus on improving positive emotional functioning, recognizing the crucial role emotions play in overall well-being. Lastly, we establish accountability through a modified therapeutic community model, where mutual support and collective responsibility drive personal change.
The mental health residential program aims to enhance readiness for change by collaborating with clients to create a relapse prevention plan. This plan facilitates the reintegration of clients into recovery-oriented services, including work, education, family, and community life. Additionally, the program establishes robust connections between law enforcement, the court system, and correctional departments to ensure coordinated services for those consumers who require them.
